Fulton’s best volleyball season in 13 years ended in sectionals on Thursday, but not without a fight. The Hornets lost to the reigning state champion Blair Oaks Falcons in three sets, but they showed resilience and determination throughout the match.

Fulton was led by seniors Mariah Reed and Mackenzie Wilson, who played their final high school game. Reed finished with a team-high seven kills, and Wilson had 281 digs for the season.

Coach Nicole Murphy won her third district title in six seasons with her third different school. She said that work ethic, passion for the sport, and wanting to be a good teammate are the keys to success, regardless of the size of the school.

Despite the loss, the Hornets had a season to be proud of. They won a district title for the first time since 2012, and they won their most matches in 11 years. They also showed that they can compete with the best teams in the state.
